In my past, I helped participate in efforts to outlicense therapeutic programs that I led
and really enjoyed the process of driving the scientific side of the discussion in the
business development process. I never thought about it as a next step in my career until
I was approached by Ozette. At the time Ozette was looking for someone with
therapeutic development expertise who could facilitate partnership discussions with
scientific teams at companies and institutions who could benefit from using Ozette’s
platform. When I began talking to Ozette in depth and learned more about the
company’s mission and goals, I became intrigued with the idea of using my experience
in developing therapeutics to help Ozette foster scientific partnerships. Once I saw the
first glimpse of Ozette’s Discovery™ Platform I immediately saw how powerful the
technology was and the advantage it could bring to accelerating therapeutic
development.
In true startup fashion, it could be many things, which I love. Oftentimes, my day starts with ensuring that our existing and developing partnerships are supported. Science is dynamic and we want to ensure that we meet partners where they are to help drive their scientific efforts forward as each partner is unique. This often looks like meeting with our partners or collaborating with our internal data science and translational science experts who work with our partners directly to coordinate starting up new projects and to help in developing follow up projects. In addition, I regularly meet with prospective partners to learn about their studies and identify and share how Ozette can be most helpful in driving their R&D and/or clinical study efforts forward using our lab and analysis platform. I also have the opportunity to represent Ozette at conferences, meeting with existing partners and developing relationships with new partners. While my activities can vary day to day, when our partners get that first look at their data using the novel technology Ozette has developed; that is the best part of my job.
It can be challenging to disrupt old processes; there’s an entire field dedicated to flow cytometry and it’s been done a specific way for a very long time and it has to be done correctly to ensure the data is interpreted correctly. Our technology is instrumental to the future of Ozette, of course, but I hope it will also become instrumental and viewed as a game changer for our industry as setting a new standard in helping scientists more efficiently surface biological insights with ease, confidence, and at a depth not possible in the past. I believe we’ll see Ozette as the pioneer in the advancement of therapeutics and improving the human condition.
